Downtown Berkeley originating at Veterans Memorial Building
September 16, 2018
Options Recovery Services was thrilled and grateful Sunday as approximately 150 participants turned out for the first annual Davida Coady Walk for Recovery. The Walk was the second of three events that Options is holding during National Recovery Month to honor their founder Davida Coady (April 15, 1938 – May 3, 2018), celebrate recovery, and raise awareness and funds to serve over 1,000 clients per year afflicted with the disease of addiction. Options board members and staff led participants on a three-mile walk through downtown Berkeley pointing out landmarks significant in Options’ history, or on a shorter walk for the less ambulatorily ambitious. Then Options provided barbeque lunch for approximately one hundred participants, sponsored by the Berkeley Police Association.
Options’ first Recovery Month event, on September 7th, celebrated the graduation of 20 adult Options clients from the year-long recovery program. The testimony of these graduates can be viewed at [link]. Attendance at the event, held at the Veterans Memorial Building and hosted by All Souls Episcopal Parish, exceeded 250.
Options’ third and final Recovery Month event will be a discussion of Addiction, Homelessness and Recovery with Options’ Executive Director Tom Gorham (the ambassador of Telegraph Avenue) and Pastor Landon Goodwin (the minister of the recyclers), and will feature a screening of the documentary film Dogtown Redemption with film co-director Chihiro Wimbush. The event starts at 12 noon, Sunday, September 30th, at the New Parkway Theater in Oakland. Tickets were available at Eventbrite https://bit/ly/2Lfyfz9 or at the door.
